Indians take tough loss against Red Dogs
Justina Contenti, Innisfail Province

The Innisfail Senior Indians put up a tough battle late in the game in their 3-2 defeat against the Rocky Red Dog’s Friday.

The game took place in Innisfail at Rotary Park and the Indians got off to a rough start with the Red Dog’s hitting a home run on the first pitch of the game.

“Rocky is typically one of the stronger teams in the league,” said Ray Bergeron, team manager.

The Indians let two more runs go, one each in the fifth and seventh innings.

However, in the sixth things started to look up for Innisfail when #26 Steve Reaman made an outstanding diving catch in left field.

Into the seventh when the Indians made their final attempt to tie up the game, #9 Corey Tibble hit one out of the park putting the Indians on the scoreboard.

“I couldn’t have hit that one any harder, you don’t see to many (home runs) with the wood bats in the game,” said Tibble about his second home run of the season.

One more run was scored in the seventh when #19 Andy Methven ran the bases giving the Indians their second point but not quite enough to take the game.

This was the final regular season game for the Indians and they are currently sitting in second place in the league.

Not discouraged by the loss, Bergeron said that the team still pitched well and played very well defensively.

The Indians will head off to Lacombe in two weeks to start the league play-off tournament hosted by the Lacombe Dodgers.

Bergeron said they are now going to start focusing on preparing for play-offs.

“Our key goal in the tournament is getting our offense going, and getting our bats going,” said Bergeron.

The top two teams from the league championships will movie on to play in a three-game championship series.
