School seeks space
The Red Deer Catholic Regional School Division (RDCRSD) will be meeting with officials in Innisfail next week to determine how to best accommodate all of the students at St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Catholic School.

Officials will be present at the value management session from Alberta Education, Alberta Infrastructure and Chinook’s Edge School Division, as well as parent representatives and school trustees.

Ken Jaeger, RDCRSD’s support services supervisor, said there isn’t enough space for students at St. Marguerite.

"Last year’s capital plan listed a new school for Innisfail as our number one priority," said Jaeger.

Jaeger also said that Innisfail as a whole has a surplus of student spaces in the community, so a new school might not be the only option. Jaeger has not ruled out the possibility that the outcome of the value management session may determine that a reallocation of property is in order. That would likely entail St. Marguerite gaining use of a mobile.

Both Alberta Education and Alberta Infrastructure have hired a consultant team to address the space issue and determine if there is a way for all students to be accommodated using the existing spaces in the community.

Library nominated for award
The Innisfail Public Library Board has been nominated by the Parkland Regional Library System for the 2010 Minister’s Award for Excellence and Innovation in Public Library Service. This nomination is in recognition of the library’s involvement in the Town of Innisfail’s Welcoming Communities initiative.

The award winners will be announced by Alberta Municipal Affairs minister Hector Goudreau at the Alberta Library Conference April 29 – May 2.
