Plant expansion near Bowden Michaela Johnstone, Innisfail Province
A multi-million dollar expansion will bring the Parkland Industries plant near Bowden back into action.
The plant has been used for storage for the last few years, said Parkland Industries president and CEO Mike Chorlton, adding that the state of the economy didn’t warrant continued operation of business within the plant and it was shut down in 2001 when it was deemed uneconomic.
In the past, the site has been used for chemical processing and the storage of those chemicals.
“We would like to do more chemical processing in the future,” said Chorlton.
With that plan in mind, Parkland Industries will be putting rail tracks going into the plant and has plans to upgrade the loading and unloading facility in the next year, said Chorlton.
“To use the facility more efficiently, it needs rail access,” he said. “We will be able to bring rail cars in for storage or chemical processing.”
Chorlton said he hopes to expand business by completing this project.
“It’s an excellent site, we just need to find the right opportunity.”
Chorlton said he doesn’t believe the expansion will cause any disruption in traffic along Highway 2A, past the plant.
