Tournament raises money for cancer foundation
Jim and Corinne Jewell hosted their 12th annual Golf for Cancer on July 14 at Buffalo Rock Golf Course in Elnora. Their fun tournament had 80 golfers in attendance with all proceeds going to Kids with Cancer.
Even though nobody won the $5,000 hole-in-one prize, almost $9,000 was raised. Some of these funds were raised by a community banana split day and a pancake breakfast held in June.
The day started with a shotgun start at 10:30 followed by prize handouts to all golfers, a dunk tank hour and a potluck supper which included a fee of a teddy bear. More than 100 teddy bears were collected, which were dropped off at the cancer clinic at Red Deer Hospital. Afterwards Don Jewell (Pine Lake) and Gavin Jewell (Ardley) had their heads shaved. Next Kyle Jewell (Calgary) had his legs waxed the redneck way--with duct tape. To end the event, raffled prizes were then handed out.
This event started out as a small family event and has grown so much as a result of an increase in donors.
