Multiplex to get new gym floor cover

The Penhold Regional Multiplex has gained a floor covering for its gymnasium that will help the facility be used for more events.

Mayor Dennis Cooper said the Red Deer Airshow Board and the Penhold Sports Club came together to donate $16,000 for the covering.

“What this does is make the building more usable,” Cooper said. He said the uses range from being able to have a gymnastic floor event to protecting the floor from tables and chairs for other kinds of events.

“If someone wanted to have a banquet … that would open up the opportunity,” Cooper said. He estimated the gymnasium could sit 450 people. That adds a different level of availability in Penhold, with Memorial Hall able to hold 250.

Cooper said he wasn’t sure how long it would take to get the covering up and running.

“They got the cheque today so they’re going to be moving forward from there,” Cooper said on July 31.
