Agreement for tower site in place: Telus

Telus has secured a site in Penhold for a new communications tower.

“We’ve got an agreement in place,” said Chris Gerritsen, manager of community engagement for Telus.

Gerritsen said there is still planning and communication with the municipality that needs to happen.

“There’s still a lot of work to be done,” Gerritsen said.

Gerritsen said the location could not be confirmed with Telus, nor could a construction start date.

“We are still looking at flipping the switch some time this year,” Gerritsen said.

Telus announced its commitment to constructing a tower in Penhold in late 2011. A letter campaign was held in Penhold starting in August of 2011 after council received complaints about cellphone reception in town.
