Coach nominated as game changer

A local football coach has been nominated as a “game changer” in a regional competition that could help bring $100,000 to Innisfail.

Wally Genz is a nominee in the Scotiabank Game Changer competition under the Calgary Stampeders category. Each of the eight CFL teams will end up with a regional game changer finalist that gets a chance to compete for national game changer.

Genz is set to receive $1,000 at the July 28 Stamps game against the B.C. Lions. That money will go to the Innisfail Minor Football Association.

He and his mother were talking about how much the money from the Kraft Celebration Tour would have helped the team.

“My mom took it one step further and nominated me for the Scotiabank Game Changer,” Genz said. He’d just found out about the $1,000 the day he was interviewed, July 19.

Supporters can vote online at www.scotiabankgamechangers.com for Genz to be the regional representative. One email address can vote once per day.

If Genz is able to bring home the $100,000 in November, he’s hoping to spread the funds out to other minor sports in Innisfail in some fashion.
