Innisfail's Jamieson wins novice bareback

Tuesday, Jul 17, 2012 03:00 am | By Sylvia Cole

Cole Jamieson, 20, of Innisfail walked away from the Calgary Stampede this weekend having won the novice bareback championship.

“I was just really excited,” he said of his reaction. “It took a little while to sink in.” The young cowboy had a combined score of 157.

Right after the event Saturday, he was back on the road heading to Peace River for another rodeo.

This isn’t Jamieson’s first time at the rodeo, but it is his first time winning. While the Stampede winnings don’t go towards his overall standings this year, he appreciates the experience and opportunity he has received by getting to compete at the Stampede.

“The Stampede pays for all of our entry fees and I think they do a really good job to get the young kids bucking.”
