Whistle debate coming to council

Council will be revisiting discussions on whether or not to proceed with a proposal to Canadian Pacific Railway regarding banning or limiting train whistles when trains rumble through town.

Last week council met with a CPR representative to learn how council would proceed with a request.

They were told the town would have to make a proposal to CPR which would include an independent study on whistle cessation.

Mayor Jim Romane said a study was completed in 2007 and they were told June 27 they would be able to resubmit the proposal.

Whether council wants to move forward and what costs would be associated are yet to be determined.

“We have to review the report and go through it again,” said Romane. “It will come back to council for debate and I think as a result of the meeting it gave us the information we need to reopen the file and look at the cost estimates.” He said while he doesn’t know when it will come before council he said “everyone agreed sooner than later we want to deal with it. People want to know where we stand on it.”
