Choking domestic assault

One Innisfail man is now in custody and facing assault charges after an alleged domestic assault occurred on Feb. 9.

Cpl. Jeff Hildebrandt said the man was charged after police were called to a 49 Avenue residence after a choking assault was reported.

Five firearms were seized after unregistered guns were found in the closet. Hildebrandt said the weapons were not used in the alleged assault.

Cigarette robbery

A man is accused of stealing two cartons of cigarettes from the Express 24 in Penhold on Jan. 24.

The accused took the cigarettes while the cashier had her back turned. The incident occurred at 6:42 a.m. The theft was caught on video.

Police have since identified the man and a warrant has been issued for his arrest.

Fuel card theft

Police are looking for information from the public that will help identify a suspect who stole a company fuel card.

The man has since tried to use the card to obtain fuel around Alberta, with one incident occurring on Dec. 6.

The suspect is described as Caucasian, 5-8 to 5-10 and slim to medium build. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Innisfail RCMP at 403-227-3342 or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.

Animal collisions

Hildebrandt said of the 10 collisions that occurred between Feb. 6 and 13, “a significant number” of them were vehicles hitting animals.

“Pay attention to the ditches when you’re driving,” Hildebrandt reminded drivers.

Break and enters

Two break and enters occurred between Feb. 6 and 13.

One break-in was in the rural area of Innisfail while the other was in town.

“Both of them involved tools,” Hildebrandt said of the stolen objects. In one case a vehicle was stolen.

Further details on the incidents were not given.
