Public should have been advised on water metre estimates

Shame on the town of Innisfail,

I am in receipt of my water/sewer/garbage billing for the period Nov. 15-Dec.16, 2011. I was shocked to see the amount owing as $141.40 when we normally pay anywhere from $37.00 to $44.00 per month. Upon enquiry at the town office we were told the Town of Innisfail lost their contract with the company who read meters for them in April 2011 and thus billings have been estimated from that time to present. Apparently, they have a new contract with a new company who is looking after meter reading now.

My point is:

Coding on our bills show “A,” “C” or “E.” No where on the bills are these codes defined thus alerting us to a situation. We are now told “A” stands for “actual” which shows on our current bill. Obviously “C” and “E” stand for something else? Prior to our current billing, the last “A” shown was on billing period Mar. 17-Apr.13 2011.

Secondly, I think the Town of Innisfail has shown total disregard for the citizens of our town who faithfully pay our taxes, service billings and their salaries. We should have been advised that bills were being estimated for the interim eight month period until a new contract was in place and not just presented with this “surprise package” especially at the Holiday Season.

I am sure I am not the only resident faced with this situation. Hopefully other residents will voice their displeasure over this situation to the Town of Innisfail and council members. A copy of this letter has been sent to Mayor Jim Romane and council.

Thank you,

Carolyn Llyod
